Skirmish deaths count against me?
Okay so I'm kinda new (2 months), but I have kinda got a feel for this game. One problem though. I heard about a survivor title that if you don't die, you get the title survivor. I'm a Roleplaying kinda guy, and I wanted to try for this.
One downside. You know the skirmish in between Pre and Post? Yeah. You remember when you had to make a decision about whether you wanted to do Roleplaying or PvP? Yeah. Well I went through all of Pre without dying once. I know, woohoo! Big accomplishment. It's a step in the right direction though.
So I get to the part where I have to transfer to Post now. So I go ahead and talk to the guy and now I have to do a skirmish. A PvP moment that is forced upon me, even though I chose to play Roleplaying with this character cause I didn't want to PvP. So I'm okay with it, thinking, this is just for fun. This can't count against me for anything, right?
Wrong. I died 3 times in the skirmish. the skirmish I didn't really care to do, cause once again, I chose Roleplaying, not PvP. So I'm thinking, oh well. I'm going for this title in Roleplaying, not PvP. Wrong again. They counted the deaths against me, so now I can't get my title with this character. Does that make sense? I'm confused. I chose Roleplaying to avoid PvP for now. Then the game forces me to do PvP against another player, which I didn't chose in the beginning, but since I had no choice, it automatically marks the deaths against me in this little "supposedly" just for fun skirmish.
Does that make sense to anyone else? Why count the deaths against me that I had in a skirmish, if it wasn't part of my deal when I signed up for Roleplaying? It's almost impossible not to die in a skirmish, since the other player will automatically target you and pull the "I'm attacking <insert name>!". So because they forced me to do PvP, even though I wanted to only do Roleplaying, I should have to suffer for it? I have no way to opt out of the skirmish, so I'm forced to do it. Why force me to do PvP, and count it against me, when I didn't click to make a PvP character? What's the point in having a Roleplaying character, if the game is going to make you do PvP?
I know alot of you are going to see this as whining and complaining, but to me it just makes sense. Why make a PvP moment count against you, when you clearly stated in the beginning that you wanted to Roleplay and not PvP? The skirmish is supposed to be something for fun to give you a taste of PvP, right? So why count it against us when it has nothing to do with the story that we are following, or the quest line that we are on?
Thanks for reading my rant, and I hope some of you agree with what I had to say.

Log out to select screen when the skirmish starts, and log back in. You will have skipped the skirmish, and can then continue with the game. Any death, including PvP, counts as a death. PvE characters can still do all forms of PvP in this game.

Game was made for PvP. Everyone else who has made a Prophecies character of the last 3 years has played that Arena, QQ less.

MisterB is correct, though that won't help you now.
If they deliberately targeted you, then you were probably the weakest in your team. If you make sure you to do all/most of the quests you'll be at least lvl 7, and at that point you'll be fine.
Also, I've taken at least 8 chars through that skirmish and all but one of those times I had 3 henchies on my team against 4 henchies. Try playing off-peak hours like I do (I'm in Australia so I'm always off-peak whether I want to be or not).

go in, let the skirmish starts, then logout. :P
Ah like my usual self, i've failed to read the whole post, sorry about that, i automatically assume you want to know how to get that done wihtout dying.
and I am in agreement with you that the death in the skirmish should not be counted as one death, it is like other situation, for instant, you got crushed by a giant bell like thing in nightfall. or if you were doing quest that NPC must stay alive, but they were killed, and you die, that also does not count as one death. so i suppose you have a point there.
Lets hope someone from arena net actually read anything type onto this forum

Moreover, the Survivor title wasn't implemented until Factions launched. So all those people who crossed to Post before that didn't care much about getting killed during that battle.
But I think you got a point there, SpyderArachnid. Deaths in those battles shouldn't count, because this fight is forced upon you.

The mobs in pve are kinda "forced against you" so should those death's not count as well?
I say, that'd be one easy survivor

he wanted to play pve and in pve mobs won't neccesarily all attack you, they will spread damage to more party members. In that pvp battle that you are forced to play, all enemy team members can attack you, so not really a good compare to do it between pve and that pvp scrimish

In Guild Wars, you are not given the option to roleplay anything other than an individual destined for combat and glory against foul creatures and your fellow man. "Farmer", "Poet", "Tax Collector", "Peasant", and the like are not options on the character selection screen. It is therefore implied and expected that you are going to be kicking ass and taking names, or getting your ass kicked, with few other options.
So, you should probably reroll, grind harder (like the Koreans do!) to get level 8+ or something, and go through again. It is clearly stated (like, in the manual, or in the game, or something) that RP characters are for PvE and PvP. So by choosing to create an RP character, you are not saying "I do not want to PvP", but rather "I want to PvE as well as PvP" (given that the options are essentially "PvE+PvP" and "No PvE"). Now, if you don't want to PvP at all, then sorry, you either need to use silly tactics to avoid it entirely (that log out method, for example), or play another game where you have the choice by default to do so without the silly tactics.
Guild Wars is a CORPG. People need to pay more attention when purchasing/starting games.

If you had payed attention, you would have noticed the skirmish was some sort of "test", to see if you're really brave and mighty enough to join the vanguard.

Well, if they all went for you, it means you were one of the weaker players, which means you were lower level.
Just restart that character; it'll be way nicer than to get all the way to lvl 20, get some elite armor and titles, then decide you want a survivor.

The simple fact that you are made to go through this (and deaths count), but are also given the chance to go for Survivor on your character is pretty retarded. I don't know how that could even be refuted. You shouldn't have to log out or run away from everyone in a PvP setting that is forced upon you just to secure a title.

One of the first, best feelings I've had in the game was winning my first scrimmage on my first character, on the first week of release.

i feel for you, OP - i agree that a forced PvP experience when you chose to play roleplaying is a bit of BS.
now, given you just barely went to post searing, there's no real loss in re-rolling your character. couple hours, and you'll be back where you were, hopefully at a higher level and death free.
luck with that, kemosabe.
